Clarence M. Pickard 1923-2002

 

Clarence Mott "Jack" Pickard died Sunday, July 14, 2002, in Columbia.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
He was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Ames, Iowa, to Clarence Luther and Sara Mildred Mott Pickard.
He married Florence Estelle "Erica" Carlan in Topeka, Kan., on Oct. 9, 1954, and she survives.
Dr. Pickard received a doctoral degree in 1948 from Johns Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore. He was a retired commander in the Naval Reserve.
He practiced internal medicine in Columbia for 35 years and retired in 1992. He was a member of the Professional Standards Review of Mid-Missouri and was on the board of directors of the Hospital Accreditation Committee. He was a board member of Boone County Group Homes and Family Support for more than 15 years. He was a former county president of the American Cancer Society.
Dr. Pickard received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Association on Mental Deficiency; the Boone County Commissioners’ Recognition and Award for Service to Mental Retardation; and the Physician Recognition Award from the American Medical Association. He also received the Marie KovarAward from Boone County Group Homes and Family Support.
For many years he provided free medical services for persons with developmental disabilities who couldn’t otherwise afford it.
He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church.
Survivors also include three sons, Carlan Brent Pickard and Emmett Blair Pickard, both of Columbia, and Reid Haskell Pickard of Overland Park, Kan.; and a daughter, Lydia Windsor Pickard of Columbia.
