David B. Means 1928-2008

 

Lt. Colonol David Blose Means, 79, of Columbia, passed away on March 20, 2008 at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Memorial Funeral Home officiated by Chaplain Alan Helland from the VA Hospital. Burial with military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Col. Means was born on November 2, 1928 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania to David F. and Florence Mattern Means and they preceded him in death. He was married to Connie Jeane Haag on October 4, 1952, in Punxsutawney and she survives.
He graduated from Punxsutawney High School and the University of Nebraska in Omaha. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and flew 46 combat missions in the Korean War. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 and worked for Shelter Insurance Companies for several years.
Col. Means was a Rated Master Navigator. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Medal with one oak leaf cluster. Col. Means was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and was a volunteer at the VA Hospital.
Survivors along with his wife are three daughters, Jennifer Dee Reed of Rocheport, Missouri, Alica J. Casey of Littleton, Colorado and Martha Sue Rigby of Kansas City, Missouri; two sons, David H. Means of Pineville, Louisiana and Nathan E. Means of Columbia, Missouri; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
