David V. Beem

 

David Vernon Beem, of Columbia, died December 25, 2023, at his home. Mr. Beem was born July 19, 1951, in Melrose Park, Illinois, to Maurice and Elsie (Vinyard) Beem. On September 17, 1973, he married Thelma Japopillo to whom he was married for 49 years. She died in 2022.

He moved to Columbia in 2005. Dave was a graduate of North Greene High School in 1970. He continued his education at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, and University of Nevada in Reno graduating in 1996 with Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of General Studies degrees.

Dave joined the United States Navy in 1971 and served 21½ years being discharged in 1997. During his naval career he served with Navy Bands in many locations performing on the trumpet, and was Leading Petty Officer, as well as supply/fiscal department head for several unit bands and Navy Band Commands. He received numerous commendations and medals during his service. Dave continued his trumpet performance with various orchestras and bands in Reno, NV and Columbia, MO.

He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 8660 (Dayton, NV) and Post 280 (Columbia, MO), where he served as bugler for funerals and ceremonies. He was also a life member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Dave was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the First Christian Church in Columbia. He enjoyed being with family, raising his dogs, playing trumpet, and traveling with Thelma.

Dave was predeceased by his parents and wife, Thelma. He is survived by his brothers Ronald (Christine) and James, sister Susan (Kenny Jackley), and many nieces and nephews.
