Dr. Earl-Clayton Grandstaff 1917-2002

 

Earl-Clayton Grandstaff, Sr., 85, Columbia, formerly of Lewis County, died July 27, 2002, in Republic, Mo.
Born July 20, 1917, a son to Dessie Porter Grandstaff and Joseph Armister Grandstaff. He married Virginia Shannon Grandstaff. She survives. Affectionately known as 'Chappie', Dr. Grandstaff served as a chaplain in the military and correctional institutions for many years. Dr. Grandstaff served as Chaplain-General of the SAR.
Dr. Grandstaff was an ordained Baptist clergyman and retired as a disabled and decorated military chaplain. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and a World War II veteran. Dr. Grandstaff was active in criminal justice circles, both as a practitioner and an educator.
As a civilian chaplain, he was associated with Prison Fellowship, the Columbia Veteran's Hospital, the Missouri correctional system and the Salvation Army. He formerly pastored the Ten Mile Baptist Church and the Monticello Baptist Church. As a criminal justice professor, Dr. Grandstaff taught at several area colleges and universities including Culver-Stockton College, Northeast Missouri State University and Hannibal-LaGrange College.
