George "Hoot" Gibson 1916-20008

 

George "Hoot" Gibson, 92, passed away Monday afternoon, May 19, 2008 at Boone Hospital Center.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am Friday, May 23, at Epple Chapel at Lenoir Woods. A graveside service will be held for the Gb'on family at 5 pm Friday at Dardenne Presbyterian Church in O'Fallon.
George was born on Jan 4, 1916, to Albert and Verna Gibson in Hamilton. On Nov 3, 1940, he married Betty Maude Jacoby. He lived most of his life in Missouri in the St. Charles area, near Kansas City and Columbia.
During World War II, George helped build airplanes for Curtis-Wright Aircraft Co, serving on special assignments in Louisville and in Buffalo as well as St. Louis. His career included 10 years in drafting as well as 24 years as plant manager in steel fabrication in the Kansas City area. He was a lifetime member and a president in the Kansas City area of the American Welding Society, the organization that sets welding standards for the nation.
In their retirement years, George and Betty toured the East Coast as amateur genealogists. They also enjoyed their membership in the Boone County Historical Society and the O'Fallon Historical Society.
He and Betty were members of the Broadway Christian Church. They lived more than 14 years at Lenoir Woods and made many friends among residents and staff.
