John H. Coutts

 

COUTTS

John Coutts has B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Missouri – Columbia in Agronomy. He worked for the Agronomy Department, later becoming Division of Plant Sciences, for over 41 years before retiring.


He is a member of the Howard County Missouri Historical Society and the Missouri State Historical Society. He is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and has served as president of the Innes Family Reunion for over 10 years. He is an elected Trustee of the Callahan Creek Watershed District serving it for over 15 years.


He has served SAR for seven years as Treasurer, two years as Vice President, 2 years as President and as Genealogist. He has had the good fortune of participating in four Grave Marking Ceremonies.


His patriot ancestor, Jesse Walker, of North Carolina fought for 3 months in the summer for 3 years. It is thought he was with Francis Marion. Another patriot ancestor, Yelverton Payton and his wife, were original settler of Fort Boonesbourgh with Danial Boone. A third patriot ancestor, John Strode, Sr., built Strode’s Station at the same time Fort Boonesbourgh was occupied, 1779. He still have 8 or 9 others Patriots to prove.
