Larry M. Baxley 1942-2011

 

Larry Mitchell "Buddy" Baxley, 68, of Salisbury, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Moberly Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salisbury, with Pastor Glen Gutz officiating. Burial will be in Salisbury City Cemetery with military honors provided by Rucker-McAllister Post #7 American Legion of Brunswick. Pallbearers will be: Gary Scheiderer, Mitchell Baxley, Scott Baxley, Chad Baxley, Bob Newsom and Larry Kaiser. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick. Memorials may be made to The Larry Baxley Memorial Scholarship Fund at Chariton County Community Foundation.
Born Aug. 19, 1942, in Brunswick, he was the son of the late Edgar and Veva Searcy Baxley. He was a 1960 graduate of Brunswick High School and later served in the US Army. On April 19, 1980, in Salisbury, he married Susan Bowen, who survives of the home. He was the publisher of The Brunswicker Newspaper and The Salisbury Press-Spectator Newspaper. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salisury, the Missouri Press Association, the Missouri Nut Growers Association, Sons of the American Revolution, Rucker-McAllister Post #7 American Legion of Brunswick and a former member of the Salisbury Jaycees.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Trevan Baxley, of Greenwood; two daughters, Niki Winkler and Lindsay Ostermann, of Salisbury; two brothers, Phil Baxley, of Huntsville, and Charles Baxley, of Excelsior Springs; four sisters, Pat Scheiderer, of Salisbury, Gloria Young, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Cynthia Langdan, of Marshall, and Cheryl Tietjens, of Brookfield; and three grandchildren.
