Paul R. Whatley is a sales manager for Broad Building Supply Company. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama. He is married to Donna (Gilpin) Whatley. They have two sons, Anthony and Aaron.
Paul is very active in the community. He serves as the Ward 4 commissioner for Columbia's Housing and Community Development Commission and currently is the chairman of the commission. He is a Master Mason of Acacia Twilight Lodge #114 and served as Worshipful Master from 2020-2021. Both Donna and Paul are members of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Paul serves as a Council Committee Member for the Boy Scouts of America. In his youth, he attained the rank of Life Scout before aging out and was involved in the Order of the Arrow. As an adult, he has earned many awards and honors including, Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor and the Order of the Arrow Founders Award, Scoutmaster Award of Merit, is a James E. West Fellow, the William D. Boyce award, and a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. Both of his sons are Eagle Scouts.
Paul's membership in the SAR started in Kansas. He is a Charter Member and first Chapter President of the Monticello Chapter, KSSSAR. Paul received the SAR Charter Centennial Medal in 2006.
Paul's patriot ancestor is William C. Maples. At the age of 15, William served as a guard along the Dan River and fought in the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. William also fought in the War of 1812. Paul has more patriots identified to submit supplemental applications.
