Scott is originally from Grinnell, Iowa but has lived in Kirksville since 1990.

Scott is married to Heidi and they have two children - Callie who lives in Lee's Summit and Brooks who lives in Alexandria, VA.

Scott practiced law in Kirksville for over 30 years and then became an Assistant Professor of Business Administration at Truman State University. The Templeton's ae pictured on their farm iin Illinois where they enjoy spending free time.

Scott's SAR ancestor is Nathaniel Templeton, who died in the Battle of Crawford's Defeat in the Ohio Territory at the end of the war.
