Thomas Eugene Crane 1932-2013

 

Thomas Eugene Crane, 81, of Columbia passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center.
A celebration of Tom's life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at First Christian Church, Tenth and Walnut streets in Columbia. Private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Tom was born July 22, 1932, to Vera Ballenger and Henry Merrill Crane at Boone County Hospital in Columbia.
He was a fifth-generation Boone Countian. Tom graduated from the University of Missouri in 1954 with a bachelor's degree in business. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
Tom married Laura Jane Pace on June 29, 1958, and she survives.
Tom was a rural mail carrier with the Columbia post office for 30 years, serving with the National Rural Letter Carriers Association in several offices.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Masonic Lodge, Sons of the American Revolution, Genealogical Society of Central Missouri and Boone County Historical Society.
Among Tom's many hobbies were gardening, collecting antique marbles and dishes, candle-making, baking oatmeal cookies, fishing and raising tropical fish. He regularly attended local auctions. His favorite activities were spending time with his family and tending his flower gardens at his farm near Harrisburg. Survivors include his wife, Laura, of Columbia; a son, Kevin M.J. Crane and wife Lesley; four grandchildren, Maxwell Thomas Crane, John Paul Crane, Daisy Crane and Eden Crane; two step-grandsons, Parker Adam and Logan Adam; and one nephew, Jonathon W. Crane.
