Colonel Virgil E. (Sonny) Raines, USA (Ret) is a Missouri native and served in the U.S. Army for 30 years. He served in Viet Nam, Korea, Europe, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Turkey during his service as an Army aviator.

He later served as administration and faculty at Columbia College and Moberly Area Community College. He is a graduate of Park University and the University of Pennsylvania, as well as the Army Command and Staff College and the Army War College.

He currently resides with his wife Emma Jo on the family farm in Boone county. They have three children and seven grandchildren.

Sonny's patriot is Major Joseph Gist, who served in the Baltimore, Maryland militia.
